It was also at that point that my business plan for an online, furniture retailer drastically changed. The furniture executives passed down the decisions to me that I needed a brick and mortar warehouse and showroom floor. This was more of an investment that I wanted at the time. After the greater part of 10 months of developing a shopping cart application, I had nothing to sell. Where one door closes, others open.
I then decided to forgo selling furniture, since the barriers to entry were numerous, and concentrate on selling what I enjoy doing, technology. As a result, I have currently have a number of projects, and unfortunately had to turn down some. If I only had more time.
Maintaining the site over the year has been challenging and rewarding. Challenging in the sense that, I would like to post more, original content, but cannot find the time required. Rewarding in the sense that, I can monitor site traffic to see what topics readers are accessing on a daily basis, and traffic continues to grow.
In addition to the blogging engine of this site, there are two other websites running within. Updating each with content, enhancements, bug fixes, and updates takes time, and is always a lower priority when it comes to customers. As for my long shopping cart application, my wife is going to be using it as a vehicle to promote and sell her handcrafted jewelry.
The site will continue to mature into year two. Perhaps there will be an ASP.NET 2.0 rewrite, time permitting of course.
